The annual Alison Hughes Medal Day was held recently. Once again, a good turnout of players ensured a fun time was had by all.
The day saw two rounds of 12 end turnaround triples, separated by a sausage sizzle lunch. In each game, as is tradition, a female skipped the last four ends.
With winners playing winners, the field was whittled down to the four best performed sides who played a knockout one-end shoot-out to find the eventual winner.
In the first semi-final, Lee-anne Baxter, Max McVie and Mick Bickley took on Laraine Clifford, Peter Johnson and Jock Bower. Laraine’s team looked in good position to go through to the final, but a couple of slips can make a big difference in a one-end shoot-out, and they got pipped at the post.
The second semi-final saw Hilary Jenkins, Adam Jones and John Slevin taking on Mardi Ryan, Kevin Laffey and Jenny Fithall. This game went down to the wire with Hilary very narrowly missing what could have been the winning shot, allowing Mardi’s team to squeak past.
The final saw Lee-Anne and Mardi’s team take each other on. An early close draw bowl lasted till the end of the game, with Lee-Anne’s team going on to take the win.
Thanks to everyone who helped out on the day, including the cooks Al and Dave, bagmen John and Peter, barstaff and committee members.
A very big thank you to Tony Hughes for the ongoing sponsorship of this special event.
Look forward to seeing you all next year.
